Tips for Choosing the Best One Skein Crochet Projects
I know how it is to have a wonderful skein of yarn that is so very special, yet you can't find the right project and so it sits in your stash for a long time. Or that extra skein that was left after finishing up a much larger project and you just can't bear to let it go.
There are so many things you can create with a single skein of yarn, but there are also some things to be aware of before you begin.
First, check the size skein that was used in the design. For example, I've seen a "One Skein Baby Blanket" on YouTube – because it was made with a skein of Caron One Pound! Most of us don't have that kind of yardage on our single skein. That pattern is included here in the line up, but be aware it uses a huge skein.
Second, ensure that the type of yarn you have is suitable for the project. You don't want to try to make a lacy cowl with a super bulky.
Finally, feel free to go a bit out there. Buy a skein in outrageous colors and pair it with a fun pattern. Make something that you wouldn't normally make. After all, it's only one skein so it won't take that long!

Common Questions About One Skein Crochet Patterns
What can you crochet with 1 skein of yarn?
There are many things to crochet with 1 skein of yarn! My favorites are a shawl pattern made with one skein of Mandala from Lion Brand Yarn (like this beginner one here), a crochet scarf pattern in a luxurious hand dyed yarn, a headband or earwarmer with interesting texture, a pair of fingerless gloves crocheted with special stitches.
What yarn weight is best for one skein crochet projects?
You can really use any yarn weight for a one skein project. The lighter weight yarns like fingering weight yarn will have more yardage than a worsted weight yarn or bulky weight yarn, so you get more bang for your buck out of them, but they do have a smaller gauge.
Can you make a blanket with one skein of yarn?
While it is possible to make a baby blanket using one of the one pound skeins or a blanket yarn made for a single-skein blanket, you cannot make a large blanket with from single skeins.
Don't you just love finding that perfect crochet pattern for a skein of yarn? Sometimes it feels like the yarn was just destined for a certain project. I hope you got that "Ah-ha!" moment when reading through this round-up of one skein crochet patterns!
